The 14th century word "worship" inadequately translates the rich Catholic distinction between the adoration due to God alone, and the reverence due to the Saints or holy things. This is where non-Catholics often confuse our theology. See the Catholic Encyclopedia for in an in depth presentation. Christian Worship at Epiphany parish relies on the generous involvement of many talented parishioners and their children.
The Pope John Paul II Adoration Chapel at Epiphany was inaugurated on Easter Morning, April 16, 2006. Adorers currently come to the rectory chapel (during construction). In our renovated facility, the chapel will be located just inside the church front doors on the right. Adorers are always welcome and needed. There are sign up forms in the chapel. Beautiful Liturgy requires the involvement of many volunteers. Altar Servers provide an important service in the sanctuary helping the priests and deacons lead the Liturgy. Children in the fourth grade and up may serve at Mass. Please encourage your children to step forward. Jennifer Schofield is our server trainer and scheduler. Children's Church is held during the 11 am Sunday Mass for children ages three to five. They gather for music, crafts, and lessons in school classrooms. Joan Hartman is our Children's Liturgies Coordinator and can be reached at Children's Church Email or by phone to the parish office.
The Adult Choir sings traditional hymns at the 9 a.m. Sunday mass under the direction of Helen Bane with organ and instrumentalist accompaniment. Practices are held on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm and before Sunday Mass. New cantors, choir members and instrumentalists are always welcome from the age of 12 and up. You do not need to have a solo voice to sing, just have the desire sing God's praise! The Adult Choir also sings when music is needed for extra services during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Altar and Rosary Society organizes church cleaning. We need many volunteers, mena and women, who would be willing to collaborate in keeping our facility beautiful and well kept. Contact Altar and Rosary or the parish office to be put on our volunteer list.
Assist with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass. Trained and commissioned "Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion" assist the priests and deacons during the weekday and Lord's Day Masses. Volunteers must be practicing and supporting members of the parish, Confirmed and be in a valid marriage, or otherwise widowed or single (even if divorced). Bring Communion to the Homebound, Nursing Homes and Hospitals. Trained and commissioned "Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion" bring Communion to those unable to attend Mass on a weekly basis. Volunteers must practicing and supporting members of the parish and be confirmed, in a valid marriage, widowed, single or divorced. The Environment Committee meets every few months to plan church decorating, especially for the Church Seasons. those interested in joining our steering committee should contact the pastor.
As a service to the bereaved, the Funeral Committee organizes and staffs a luncheon at the parish. volunteers are needed to serve and prepare desserts for the event. Please contact Maggie Vaselack by email, or call the parish office at (309) 452-2585.
Parishioners in good standing with the Church and endowed with a good, clear speaking voice, are welcome to speak with the pastor about serving as a lector in proclaiming the Word of God on weekday, Holy Day and Lord's Day Masses.
Bob Feldhake leads the Life Teen Ensemble at Mass and on special occasions during the year. If you are a vocalist or instrumentalist and would like to offer your talents for contemporary worship at the Sunday night teen Mass, please contact Bob through our Life Teen Youth Minister, Jim Surprenant at (309) 452-2585.

Beginning Labor Day 2010: Nursery volunteers are needed to watch infants and toddlers up to three years old in the Kathryn Marie Albee Learning Center during 9 a.m. Sunday mass. This is a free service provided to parishioners from Labor Day through Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers must complete the Safe Environment Program training and background check (required by the Diocese of Peoria). Contact Children's Church Coordinator Joan Hartman for more information.
Two prayer groups gather for fellowship and prayer and praise at Epiphany Parish. New members are always welcome. The "Breath of the Spirit" Charismatic meets weekly on Monday evenings; contact Cathy Bissoondial for more information. She can be reached through the parish office, 309-452-2585. Altar and Rosary Society members help maintain the sacristy and its contents (vestments, vessels, etc.). If you would like to assist in this service, regular sacristans are needed at all Masses, weekday and Lord's Day. Contact the co-chairs of the Altar and Rosary Society, or speak with the pastor.
Ushers help greet and seat parishioners as they enter the church for Lord's Day Masses. They also assist parishioners with disabilities; distribute church bulletins and other materials as requested after Mass; excuse parishioners from their pews during Communion for an orderly procession; help with collections; and straighten up the Church after all Masses.
